Sharon Zhang is a young Asian-Australian writer and student living on Wurundjeri land. |
A 2022 Foyle Young Poet of the Year, Sharon's works have featured recently in Rust + Moth, HAD, GASHER, Voiceworks, and elsewhere. She is the author of forthcoming debut chapbook mother bird (fifth wheel press, 2023).
Sharon is currently serving as a senior editor for Polyphony Lit. Finding her start in spoken word poetry, she has received honours from the ISV poetry competition, the OutLoud! poetry slam, and is a 2x winner of the Boroondara Literary Awards. As such, she has been commissioned by and performed with organisations such as Science Gallery Melbourne, the Wheeler Center, and the State Library of Victoria's Library on the Lawn series. Outside of writing, Sharon is a student member of the Australian Dostoevsky Society and is currently studying the International Baccalaureate, with her extended essay focusing on bodily representations of hegemony within contemporary poetic texts. She also enjoys indie folk rock (especially on CDs), playing violin, and is currently absurdly into Falsettos. She hopes to become one of those deeply prolific writers who simultaneously continue to cook, study, and exercise whilst writing. |
